About Us

In 1930, the Schinto Dental practice was started by John J. Schinto, Sr. who opened at the top of Greenwich Avenue. He practiced there for 40 years before his son, John J. Schinto, Jr. joined the practice and moved it to Riverside in 1984. In 1995, John J Schinto, III joined the practice as a third generation dentist. In 2005, bursting at the seams, John opened his larger, state of the art office on the Stamford/Greenwich border where he practices today.

Schinto Dental has embraced the latest technology in dentistry today while never sacrificing the personal touch to which his patients have been accustomed to.

MEET THE STAFF

Dr. John J. Schinto III, DDS

Dr. John J. Schinto, III graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1995 and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Richmond in 1991. Dr. Schinto belongs to the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the Connecticut State Dental Association, and the Greenwich Dental Society.

Dr. Schinto has a strong interest in restorative, cosmetic and family dentistry. He is driven by his mission statement as he continues annual continuing education courses and is committed to advances in technology which he eagerly implements in his clinical and practice management of his new state of the art office.

Dr. Schinto is happily married to Elizabeth and is the father of three children, John IV, Taylor and Benjamin. The family enjoys sailboat racing, cruising and fishing on their boat “Snook”, golf, swimming, snow skiing, walking the dogs and traveling to Florida to see family as much as possible.

Dr. Mark DiRusso, DMD

Dr. Mark DiRusso was born and raised in Riverside, Connecticut; attending Riverside Elementary, Eastern Middle School, and Greenwich High School. He went on to earn his undergraduate and Doctor of Dental Medicine degrees from the University of Connecticut before relocating to Oklahoma City after being selected for a one-year Advanced Education residency program at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry.

During residency, Dr. DiRusso focused on excellence in esthetic dentistry, dentoalveolar surgery, implant dentistry, and complex full-mouth rehabilitation. His clinical interests include oral surgery, implant dentistry, and comprehensive patient care. He is an active member of the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) and currently pursuing Fellowship status with the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.

Outside of the office, Dr. DiRusso enjoys spending time outdoors golfing, fishing, and skiing, as well as staying active. He values time with family and friends and is always on the lookout for the best sushi or burger in town.

He is passionate about providing his patients the best care possible, backed by the most recent technology and research available. Most importantly, Dr. DiRusso enjoys building great relationships with his patients and truly believes that dentistry has the power to meaningfully improve both confidence and quality of life.

Elizabeth Schinto

Elizabeth Schinto is the wife of Dr. Schinto. She oversaw the construction of the new state of the art office. She is the mother of three children and helps Dr. Schinto with the day to day operations of the business as well as the bookkeeping. She is a graduate of the University of Richmond with a bachelor of science in business administration. She enjoys volunteering and fundraising for local community organizations. She has been involved with First Church and Riverside Yacht Club, where she currently serves on the board. She enjoys time with her children and outdoor sports such as golf, tennis, walking her dogs, sailing, yoga, snow skiing and cross country skiing.

Nancy

Nancy has been a registered dental hygienist since 1992, working in the Schinto Dental practice since 1987. She graduated from the University of Bridgeport. She and Dr. Schinto attended Eastern Middle School and Greenwich High School together. She performs all preventive dental procedures including cleanings, x-rays and patient education. She enjoys time with her husband and her four daughters. Nancy is always willing to step in to help.

Amber

Amber started at Schinto Dental in 2024. She graduated the Tunxis Dental Hygiene program in 2019 with an Associate’s Degree in Dental Hygiene. Amber has travelled around the state of Connecticut providing routine dental hygiene care, including periodontal maintenance and laser therapy.

Amber is passionate about the care she provides to her patients and will always provide further education and answer all patient questions.

Amber is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and in her spare time advocates for veteran dental care and providing oral health education. She works with the CT State schools to provide the student veterans with free oral health supplies.

Luz

Luz has been working at Schinto Dental since 2021 when receiving her associates degree from the University of Bridgeport. In May of 2022 Luz graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of Bridgeport. Luz is fluent in both English and Spanish. You will find that she is compassionate, caring and always going above and beyond for her patients providing optimal care and service. In her spare time she enjoys going on walks at the beach and spending time with her friends and family.

Gabriela

Gabriela has been with the office since November 2006 as a dental assistant. She assists Dr. Schinto chair side, along with making sure patients are comfortable throughout their entire treatment experience. Gabriela has been a dental assistant since 1997. She has a technical engineering degree and can fix just about anything in the office. Gabriela loves to talk with patients and she never stops moving. We welcome her as she has been a wonderful addition to our team. She enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons. She also enjoys dancing and ice skating.

Maria

Maria joined our office in March 2007 and works at the front desk. She is happy to assist you in scheduling appointments, processing your dental insurance and answering any questions you may have. Maria enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter and traveling to their condo in Florida. Maria is especially proud of her daughter who just graduated from nursing school.

Angie

Angie joined our office in June 2022, and she is the friendly face you’ll see at the front desk. She graduated from Porter & Chester as a dental assistant and brings over 10 years of experience in the dental field. She is happy to assist you with scheduling your appointments and answering any questions you may have. She also assists Dr. Wengrover to help ensure patients receive excellent care. Outside of work, Angie enjoys spending time with her dogs, being with family and rollerblading.
